Recently, I heard a glowing review about Eat-Drink-Love, a new lunch spot in Ocean Springs. The review came from the brilliant and talented couple, Chef Alex Perry and his wife Kumi of Vestige, also in downtown Ocean Springs.
I filed their recommendation until a few days later when an image on Instagram made me look twice. The photo showed a bistro table in the sand on Ocean Springs Beach, with a full picnic spread atop – it looked straight out of a vintage French Riviera movie scene. The food and setup artfully prepared by none other than Eat-Drink-Love Catering.
I didn’t waste any time visiting their new Porter Avenue storefront.
It was a rainy spring afternoon, and the small parking lot was full, spilling into the parking lot at The Roost, a new boutique hotel next door.
My friend met me there, and we found stools amongst the full dining room and cheerful crowd. We mulled over the short but tasteful menu as well as the specials on the chalkboard wall.
We started with a Charcuterie Platter.
Then we ordered a Strawberry Spinach Salad and a Pimento Grilled Cheese Sandwich to share.
Our food arrived quickly, especially considering the crowded restaurant. We couldn’t wait to dive into the crostini with Brie and house made jam, assorted olives, rolled cured meats, stuffed dates and fresh mozzarella with tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinegar that were artfully arranged on our Charcuterie Platter. Visually stunning. Our tastebuds weren’t disappointed.
The Pimento Grilled Cheese Sandwich was served on a soft and sweet jalapeno bun. The sharp cheddar in the pimento cheese was perfectly balanced by the sweet bun with pops of firey jalapeno flavor.
Perfect for a spring luncheon, the salad featured crisp, fresh spinach topped with sweet local strawberries, goat cheese, red onions, pecans and a balsamic reduction. I could eat one of these salads every day. But I bet the seasonality of the ingredients and their local sourcing is what made it so perfect.
At Eat-Drink-Love, you’ll always be served the freshest ingredients they can find, sourced as locally as possible. Food is their passion and it shows.
These days, with food being my profession, it’s unfortunate that I don’t often get to savor every morsel on a plate. But on this day – I did. It was a lunch time love affair at a new gem in our coastal corner of the world here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Eat-Drink-Love Story
After lunch, I was compelled to personally give my compliments to the chef and owner, Seth Braden. He and his wife Lauren started this business as a catering company in early 2015, and he says, it has evolved over time including the storefront you can enjoy today.
Seth and Lauren met in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, where he was a chef. They fell in love and now proudly call Ocean Springs their home.
They aim to please. Customization is key in their catering. They offer everything from lavish full service catering with mimosa bars to small intimate options like a dinner for two or picnic to-go, (which is easy to set up on the beach nearby, and how the image I found on Instagram happened).
The Bradens are as kind as they are talented and passionate. Their restaurant is no different – all smiles with laughter and friends new and old enjoying their food. Stop by soon for some tasty bites, a few laughs and a meal to go like their made from scratch take home meals, specialty meats and cheeses.
