The White House Hotel in Biloxi is known for it’s beautiful weddings, it’s impressive rooftop views, date nights at Cora’s Restaurant, and, well, it’s Southern couture. They have a lot of good going on, but seriously, their happy hour deserves some major attention. It is by far one of the best on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Weekdays, between 4 and 6 p.m. you can enjoy half price appetizers, a $5 drink special, $5 glasses of wine and over a dozen $5 draft beer selections. Plus, each day there is a bonus special, like Wednesday’s two for one wine pours and Monday and Friday’s two for one well drinks.
But before you snub this, what makes this a truly great Happy Hour is not the prices – it’s the selection and quality of wine and spirits offered. These aren’t your typical $5 well drinks!
What Experience to Expect
The atmosphere during Happy Hour is no different than dinner hours. The elegant yet approachable menu and service comes with big smiles. Flavorful foods and drinks are the topic of conversation. Speaking of delicious food: the appetizers offered at half price during Happy Hour are a collection of modern Mississippi Coast favorites.
Crispy Chicken Wings, served with spicy apricot ginger glaze and Danish blue cheese. The flavor changes up on the menu often, so check out their latest!
Brie and Crab Dip with crostini. This creamy dip combines buttery and smooth brie with sweet jumbo lump blue crab meat. The dip is served with crispy fried crostinis. So good (and so worth the calories)!
Blackened Shrimp Taco. Gulf shrimp – slightly blackened, some sweet and crunch from the ancho-mirliton slaw with pepper jelly vinaigrette and a chipotle aioli. These tacos are regularly only $4 (which means only $2 during half price happy hour), and they’re crafted with layers of flavor! This is one of the most tremendous values – and best tasting – we’ve found anywhere on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Gulf shrimp, slightly blackened, some sweet and spicy crunch, and a creamy chipotle topping. These tacos are actually some of the best around.
The Reason Happy Hour is Happy
These tasty plates are well complimented by Cora’s discerning wine choices in a variety of pour options including, 1 ounce, 3 ounce or 5 ounce from their EnoMatic wine system that lines the interior walls of the bar, retaining the freshness of each wine. This is a great option for the wine explorer who enjoys trying samples of several wine or create their own tasting flights of new or different wines as well as the wine lover who would appreciate that 5 ounce larger than traditional pour. With over 40 wines to choose from, everyone is sure to find a few they enjoy.
My favorite finds? The King Estate Pinot Gris, rated 91 points by Wine Enthusiast is a crisp white, perfect for waterfront sipping and the Robert Biale “Black Chicken” Zinfandel, one of my all time favorite reds – jammy and bold.
Cora’s Happy Hour is offered from 4:00 – 6:00, Tuesday – Friday. Lunch is available, 11:30 – 2:30, Tuesday – Friday, and brunch Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 – 2:30. Dinner hours are 5:30 – 10:00 Tuesday – Sunday. They are closed on Monday.
