The Mississippi Gulf Coast has been home for a few years now. Which makes us locals – and outsiders – all at the same time, and you’ll feel that perspective in the stories you read here.
After spending some time here on “the Coast,” as locals call it, we realize we’re not the only ones that feel that way. Whether you’ve been on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for five minutes or fifty years, there always seems to be a new adventure to take and new friendships to make. It’s part of the perfection of this place.
But one of our favorite things about this region is the flavor…. there are always new flavors to discover here. The sea provides a seemingly endless bounty and local chefs continue to innovate with our local bounty. The Cajun and Creole influence here is undeniable. The fruit of the land has its own flavor here, too, from the local Satsuma and other local citrus to the tart February strawberries and year-round bounty of greens and local dairy products, our farmer’s markets overflow year round. The diversity of our people also inspire diverse flavors. The military brings culinary influence from around the globe and the Asian influence in our fishing and culinary economies is inspiring.
Maybe you’re planning your first trip to the region?
If you are, you will be happy to know that the locals will be happy to see you and share our rich Mississippi coast life experiences with you. And those adventures will become your own, and you’ll get it. The draw is undeniable, and that’s why we’re so happy to share our own culinary exploration with you here on EatMSCoast.com. This isn’t our first rodeo in the culinary world.
We’re a self-proclaimed team of “eaties” – not foodies. We enjoy the entire process of food – from the farm and sea to the preparation and ultimately, the flavors we enjoy on our plates. We’ve been privileged to write about food all over the Southern U.S. and spend a lot of time being ambassadors for Southern grown and made culinary products wherever we go – and we travel a lot. You can read more about that over on EatYall.com. If you are a local, and you venture north very often to Mississippi’s Capitol City, you can read about local food there on our web site, EatJackson.com.
Wherever we are, we don’t deny the careful thought put into each plate at fine dining establishments, and we’ll certainly be writing about plenty of those here at EatMSCoast.com. But here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we have a real soft spot for the dives and corner markets that serve up the very best poboys, fresh seafood and burgers that you’ll find anywhere. It is these places that have made this place feel like home for us. It’s the comfort food of our adopted home, and we’ll share plenty of that with you here, too. We hope you’ll grow to enjoy the culinary culture of the Mississippi Gulf Coast as much as we do. So put on your stretchy pants and join us on this eating adventure here on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast!
